Why do cats like wool? Cats are attracted to wool, because it contains a natural oil called lanolin that is secreted by a sheep's skin. It is believed that the scent and taste of lanolin reminds cats of their mother's fur and their mother's milk. On the opposite spectrum, it is believed that wool may trigger innate hunting instincts since it is the byproduct of a prey animal. Lanolin has naturally occurring antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it an excellent material for use in pet products.
